Independent Safe Sport Disciplinary Panel Calibration 2026

The Safe Sport Commission Singapore recently held conducted its annual calibration session with members of the independent Disciplinary Panel (DP), providing an opportunity to strengthen consistency and confidence in the management of Safe Sport cases.

The session began with insights from Dr Björn Hessert and Ms Chui Ling Goh, who shared their experiences in safeguarding cases before the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS). Their expertise offered valuable insight into evolving approaches to jurisdiction, vulnerable persons and and decision-making internationally, prompting reflection on Safe Sport case management in the Singapore context.

DP members then took part in a group calibration exercise, working through case studies focused on the assessment of evidence and application of the Safe Sport Programme’s Decision-Making Framework. The discussions also drew on members’ own hearing experiences, highlighting the practical considerations and nuances that may not always be captured within written frameworks.

Calibration sessions play an important role in supporting fair and consistent decision-making, while creating space for DP members to learn from one another, challenge assumptions and build confidence in their responsibilities.
