Be an Upstander with the 3Ds
Direct
What it says on the tin - name the harmful behaviour and address the situation directly.
Examples
-
"That's bullying, stop talking to them like that"
-
"Are you ok? Do you want to leave training?"
-
"Thats not appropriate"
Remember to consider the safety of everyone before using a Direct intervention. If you foresee the situation escalating, choose Distract or Delegate instead.
Distract
Subtly take attention away from the situation by changing the topic or indirectly interrupting.
Let your creativity run wild - the key to a good Distract intervention is to not let on that your are actually intervening.
Examples
-
Ask the person being harassed to do a pair exercise with you
-
"Accidentally" kick a ball or throw an apparatus near the commotion
Delegate

Intervening can be scary! Find a trusted adult or rally other bystanders to assume responsibility and take action.
Examples
-
Tell a Safeguarding Officer, teacher, team manager, or parent
-
Make a report to the Safe Sport Commission's webform
-
Alert the Singapore Police Force in the event of an emergency
