Campus Champions: Student Leaders Step Up
The Safe Sport team recently conducted awareness workshops for student leaders at Institute of Technical Education (ITE) College West, Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD), and Singapore University of Social Sciences (SUSS), bringing together voices from across higher education to champion safer sporting environments.
The workshops taught student leaders how to identify abuse and harassment in sport, as well as how to protect themselves and their peers. Participants learned about how everyone is responsible in breaking cycles of abuse and harassment which could damage the integrity of sport.
Students were asked to reflect on their current sporting environments and identify any potential Safe Sport risks they could observe. Through guided discussions and case studies exploring “grey areas” of behaviour, students unpacked complex situations and considered how best to respond. Working through realistic scenarios helped sharpen their ability to spot early warning signs and navigate challenging situations with confidence.
By educating student leaders from these three institutions, the workshops
created a network of informed advocates who can now influence their communities,
support their peers, and direct others to the right channels for help.
The initiative represents an important step towards strengthening a culture
of safety across Singapore's higher education sporting landscape. If you’d
